When is a scissor lift the right rental?

When the work sits directly above a place the machine can sit. Scissor lifts give the largest platform of the three, room for a couple of workers plus materials, and they excel at ceiling grids, ductwork, lighting, painting, and inventory work. Electric slab models run quiet and clean indoors on solid non-marking tires, in widths that pass through standard doorways and aisles. Rough terrain scissors take the same straight-up concept outdoors with engine power and larger tires.

When is a boom lift the right rental?

When something is in the way, or the height is beyond scissor territory. Booms trade platform size for reach: an articulating boom bends at the knuckle to go up and over obstacles, and a telescopic boom runs a straight stick for maximum height and outreach. Facade work, structural steel, signage, tree work, and anything requiring approach from an angle belongs to booms.

Two numbers matter and get confused constantly: platform height is where the floor of the basket sits, and working height is roughly six feet above that, where hands actually work. What do ground conditions decide?

More than most renters expect. Finished concrete indoors points to electric slab scissors or electric booms with non-marking tires. Compacted gravel, dirt, and slopes point to rough terrain scissors, engine-powered booms with four wheel drive, or telehandlers. Soft or disturbed ground needs honest discussion before delivery day, because a machine that sinks or cannot level is a machine that does not work that day. Tell the rental desk what the machine will drive on and park on; it changes the recommendation more often than height does.

What does the site itself rule out?

Measure three things before booking: the access opening the machine must pass through, the overhead clearance along its path, and the floor or ground it will sit on.
